Marker 20 presents Rolling of the Bulls 2012 Aug. 19

The Marker 20 restaurant in Hampton will present Rolling of the Bulls 2012 on Sunday, Aug. 19.

A parody of the famous Running of the Bulls seen in countries like Spain and Portugal, the Rolling of the Bulls replaces the dangerous horned behemoths with roller derby girls and whiffle ball bats.

"In downtown Hampton there is a committed group of residents and business owners that take their whimsy seriously," said Marker 20 owner Carlyle Bland in a press release. "The purpose of our Rolling of the Bulls is threefold: to have fun, to bring awareness to the great sport of roller derby and to help raise some money for the Dominion Derby Girls."

The Dominion Derby Girls is an all-female roller derby league in the region belonging to the Women's Flat Track Derby Association.

A Blessing of the Bulls ceremony will begin at 12:45 p.m. followed by the half-mile run at 1 p.m. Runners will start at the corner of Wine Street and Queens Way, and end at Marker 20, located at 21 East Queens Way, in Hampton. Both events are free.

Marker 20 will host an event party from 1-3 p.m. for $15.

Runners must wear white with a red scarf and sash to make themselves known as targets. All participants must be 12 or older.
