Four members of Hampton University women's track and field team get All-American honorable mentions
The U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association named four members of the Hampton University women’s track and field team as honorable mention All-Americans.
Senior Benita Taylor from Philadelphia earned honorable mention honors in the 800-meter run and the 4x400-meter relay. She ran time of 2 minutes, 09.23 seconds in the preliminaries of the 800-meter run, coming in eighth in her heat in the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Des Moines, Iowa.
Also earning All-American honors for the 4x400-meter relay were freshman Cassandra Jones from Norfolk, Emmy Fraenk of Hampton and senior Claudla Calder of Kingston, Jamaica.
The Lady Pirates ran a 3:41.44 in their preliminary heat at the NCAA Championships.
Those who participated at the national championships, but did not place in the meet’s top 16, are listed as honorable mention for the All-America award.
In all, 189 men and 188 women earned All-America honors.
