Virginia Department of Transportation to test gates at Interstate 64 on May 19
The Virginia Department of Transportation will conduct routine testing from 5-6 a.m. May 19 at the I-64 Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel.
VDOT suggests that motorists avoid delays by using the I-664 Monitor-Merrimac Memorial Bridge-Tunnel as an alternate route.
Motorists traveling I-64 east and west through the HRBT should expect traffic stops of up to 30 minutes as each of the four gates are tested.
Maintenance operations for both tunnels consist of successfully cycling the associated tide gates and roadway drain valves. Upon completion of all maintenance activities, traffic will be released in both directions.
Motorists are encouraged to visit www.va511.org, call 511, listen to Highway Advisory Radio 610-AM or call the Traffic Information Line at 757-361-3016 for current traffic and travel information.
